Immersive Educational Technology for Enhancing Student Engagement Through the Integration of Islamic Values

Abstract

The rapid advancement of immersive educational technologies has transformed higher education by creating interactive, experiential, and student-centered learning environments. However, previous studies have mainly emphasized the effectiveness of immersive technologies in improving learning outcomes and motivation, while the integration of Islamic values as a pedagogical foundation for enhancing student engagement has received limited scholarly attention. This study aimed to examine recent developments in immersive educational technologies for enhancing student engagement through the integration of Islamic values and to propose a conceptual framework for higher education. A descriptive qualitative approach employing the Systematic Literature Review method was used. The study analyzed 250 scholarly publications published between 2016 and 2025 and retrieved from the Scopus, Google Scholar, and SINTA databases. Data were synthesized through thematic and content analysis to identify research trends, recurring themes, and knowledge gaps. The findings revealed that immersive educational technologies enhanced behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and social dimensions of student engagement when supported by appropriate pedagogical design and Islamic values. This study proposed the Immersive Islamic Learning Framework, integrating immersive technologies, Islamic values, and student engagement into a comprehensive conceptual model that advances immersive learning theory and provides practical guidance for developing value-based digital learning environments in higher education.
