Publication Process

Tanwirul: Journal of Islamic Education implements a transparent, systematic, and quality-oriented publication process to ensure that every published article meets high standards of academic excellence, publication ethics, and scholarly contribution. All publication procedures are managed through the Online Journal System (OJS) and follow the best practices recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Stage 1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscripts through the journal's online submission system by providing all required metadata, including:

  • Article title;

  • Author(s)' full name(s) and institutional affiliation(s);

  • Email and ORCID ID (if available);

  • Corresponding author information;

  • Abstract;

  • Keywords;

  • References;

  • Originality and copyright declaration.

Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the journal's author guidelines, manuscript template, and publication ethics policies.

Submitted articles should be written in a clear and scholarly manner and generally follow the IMRAD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion), consisting of:

  • Title

  • Abstract

  • Keywords

  • Introduction

  • Methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • Conclusion

  • References

The manuscript must present original research findings, demonstrate a clear contribution to the field of Islamic education, and align with the aims and scope of Tanwirul: Journal of Islamic Education.

Output: The manuscript is successfully submitted and assigned a unique submission ID for further editorial processing.

Stage 2. Initial Editorial Screening

The editorial team conducts a preliminary assessment to evaluate:

  • Alignment with the journal's aims and scope;
  • Completeness of submission documents;
  • Compliance with the journal template and formatting requirements;
  • Language quality and readability;
  • Adherence to publication ethics.

Manuscripts that fail to meet the journal's basic requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or rejected without external review (desk rejection).

Output: The manuscript is either approved or declined for further processing.

Stage 3. Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts that pass the initial screening are subjected to plagiarism detection using similarity-checking software.

The editorial team evaluates:

  • Overall similarity index;
  • Potential plagiarism;
  • Duplicate publication;
  • Self-plagiarism.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's originality standards may be rejected or returned for revision.

Output: The manuscript satisfies the journal's originality requirements.

Stage 4. Editor and Reviewer Assignment

The Editor-in-Chief appoints a Handling Editor to oversee the review process.

The manuscript is then assigned to at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject matter of the submission.

Output: Reviewers are appointed and the peer-review process begins.

Stage 5. Double-Blind Peer Review

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

  • Originality and novelty;
  • Relevance to Islamic education studies;
  • Theoretical and methodological rigor;
  • Validity of data and analysis;
  • Scholarly contribution;
  • Clarity and organization of writing;
  • Suitability for publication.

Throughout the review process, the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential.

Output: Reviewers submit recommendations and constructive feedback.

Stage 6. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' reports, the editor may make one of the following decisions:

Accept

The manuscript is accepted for publication without further revision.

Minor Revision

The manuscript requires minor improvements before acceptance.

Major Revision

The manuscript requires substantial revisions and may undergo an additional round of review.

Reject

The manuscript does not meet the journal's academic, methodological, or ethical standards.

Output: An editorial decision letter is sent to the author(s).

Stage 7. Author Revision

Authors are required to revise their manuscript in accordance with the reviewers' and editors' comments.

Authors must:

  • Submit the revised manuscript;
  • Upload a response-to-reviewers document;
  • Clearly explain how each comment has been addressed.

Output: The revised manuscript is received by the editorial office.

Stage 8. Revision Evaluation

The editor and/or reviewers assess the revised manuscript.

If the revisions are satisfactory, the manuscript may proceed to acceptance. If further improvements are necessary, additional revisions may be requested.

Output: Final acceptance decision.

Stage 9. Letter of Acceptance (LoA)

Once the manuscript has successfully passed the review and revision stages, the journal issues a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) as official confirmation that the article has been accepted for publication.

Output: Official Letter of Acceptance issued.

Stage 10. Copyediting

Accepted manuscripts undergo professional copyediting, including:

  • Language editing;
  • Grammar and style correction;
  • Citation and reference checking;
  • Formatting standardization.

The purpose of this stage is to improve the quality, consistency, and readability of the manuscript.

Output: A copyedited manuscript ready for production.

Stage 11. Layout Editing and Galley Proof

The production team prepares the manuscript according to the journal's publication format.

Authors receive a galley proof to:

  • Check typographical errors;
  • Verify the accuracy of information;
  • Provide final approval before publication.

Output: Author-approved final proof.

Stage 12. DOI Registration and Metadata Indexing

Before publication, the article undergoes:

  • Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registration;
  • Metadata preparation and validation;
  • Indexing preparation and digital archiving.

Output: DOI assigned and metadata completed.

Stage 13. Online Publication

The final version of the article is published online in the designated journal issue and made freely accessible under the journal's Open Access policy.

Published articles become a permanent part of the journal's scholarly archive.

Output: Article officially published.
