Peer Review Process
Tanwirul: Journal of Islamic Education is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, integrity, and scholarly rigor through a transparent and objective peer-review process. All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous evaluation process to ensure originality, scientific contribution, methodological soundness, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.
The journal employs a Double-Blind Peer Review system, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review process. This approach ensures impartiality, fairness, and objectivity in manuscript evaluation.
1. Initial Submission
Authors submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system. The manuscript must comply with the journal's author guidelines, formatting requirements, and publication ethics standards.
2. Preliminary Editorial Screening
Upon submission, the Editor-in-Chief or Handling Editor conducts an initial assessment to evaluate:
- Suitability with the journal's aims and scope;
- Originality and academic relevance;
- Compliance with manuscript preparation guidelines;
- Language quality and readability;
- Ethical compliance and research integrity.
At this stage, manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements may be rejected without external review (desk rejection).
3. Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the review process.
The journal accepts manuscripts with a similarity index that complies with academic publishing standards. Manuscripts containing plagiarism, excessive similarity, or evidence of unethical publication practices will be rejected immediately.
4. Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the preliminary screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript's subject area.
Under the double-blind review system:
- Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors.
- Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers.
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:
- Originality and novelty;
- Relevance to Islamic education studies;
- Theoretical and methodological rigor;
- Quality of data analysis and interpretation;
- Contribution to knowledge and practice;
- Clarity, organization, and scholarly presentation;
- Adequacy of references and citations.
5. Reviewer Recommendations
Reviewers may provide one of the following recommendations:
a. Accept Submission
The manuscript is accepted without revisions.
b. Minor Revisions Required
The manuscript requires minor improvements before publication.
c. Major Revisions Required
The manuscript requires substantial revisions and may undergo an additional round of review.
d. Reject Submission
The manuscript is unsuitable for publication due to significant academic, methodological, or ethical concerns.
6. Editorial Decision
The final publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief based on:
- Reviewer reports;
- Academic merit of the manuscript;
- Compliance with journal standards;
- Ethical considerations.
Possible editorial decisions include:
- Accepted;
- Accepted with Minor Revisions;
- Resubmit for Review;
- Rejected.
The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to make the final decision regarding publication.
7. Revision Process
Authors receiving revision requests are required to:
- Revise the manuscript according to reviewer comments;
- Submit a detailed response letter explaining how each comment has been addressed;
- Resubmit the revised manuscript within the specified timeframe.
Failure to submit revisions within the designated period may result in withdrawal of the submission.
8. Final Evaluation and Acceptance
Following revision, the manuscript may undergo:
- Editorial evaluation; or
- Additional peer review, if necessary.
Once the manuscript satisfies all academic and editorial requirements, the Editor-in-Chief will issue a formal acceptance decision.
9. Copyediting and Proofreading
Accepted manuscripts proceed to:
- Language editing;
- Copyediting;
- Layout editing;
- Proofreading.
Authors will receive page proofs for final review and approval before publication.
10. Publication
The final version of the article is published online as an open-access publication and becomes permanently accessible through the journal website.
